District to repurpose kindergarten readiness teacher into district behavior specialist

Haysville USD plans to reconfigure its kindergarten readiness program to expand behavioral supports across elementary schools next school year.
Dr. Reed told the board the kindergarten readiness program served about "8 to 10 students district wide" in recent years but the district will convert the program's teacher, Jennifer White, into a district-level behavior specialist. Four current paraeducators who worked in the readiness program will be reassigned to school buildings to provide direct behavioral support and to make services available to a larger number of students.
"This, we believe, will benefit more students than 8 to 10 a year," Dr. Reed said. The district described principals as supportive and noted the specialist would also provide professional development for certified and classified staff. The initial focus will likely be K-2, though supports could be used for older grades as needs arise.
