Dade City reports initial 3M PFAS settlement offer of $225,740; commission grants authority to manager to sign if deadline requires

Dade City staff told the commission the city received an initial settlement payment offer of $225,740.15 from 3M in litigation related to PFAS/PFOS. City leadership said DuPont litigation remains active and that this initial movement represents the first settlement activity in the city’s PFAS cases.
City Attorney Patrick Brackens told commissioners the city had received the offer via DocuSign and asked whether the commission would authorize the city manager to sign the settlement paperwork should the settlement require action before the next scheduled commission meeting. The commission gave consensus for the city manager to sign any time-sensitive agreement if counsel advises a deadline exists and to bring the executed agreement back to the commission for ratification on the May 27 consent agenda.
City Manager (acting) Miss Van Ervin said the item is likely to be placed on the May 27 consent agenda for ratification and that DuPont litigation is ongoing. Brackens said staff would share any documents with the commission in advance of a signature and recommended ratification at a public meeting to follow any emergency signature.
No formal roll-call vote was recorded; the commission provided consensus direction to staff to permit the manager to execute time-sensitive settlement documents and then bring the matter forward for ratification.
