District curriculum update: Anive rollout targeted for August; summer programs, ELPA results and grant activity reported

Crete Public Schools curriculum director Dr. Hayek told the board May 12 that the district remains on track to roll out its Anive data and instructional platform to staff in August and is continuing iterative work on dashboards and teacher workbenches.
Dr. Hayek said two staff groups have been meeting weekly with the project team to integrate multiple data sources into an executive dashboard, principal and counselor workbenches, and the teacher workbench. She said small timing shifts were made to accelerate teacher-engagement work because several staff volunteered to provide early input.
On summer programming, Dr. Hayek reported 546 students in kindergarten through eighth grade were registered for some portion of Cardinal Summer programming and that the district will run 68 distinct camps in June; 232 of those registered students requested transportation. The district offers free breakfast and lunch for students ages 1–18 at its summer sites, she said.
On English-learner assessment results, Dr. Hayek said the district has 608 EL students. She reported two headline figures from the spring ELPA assessment: “45” students made a “significant leap” (a transcript term used by the presenter) and “76” students scored “proficient.” The meeting record does not make clear how those two numbers overlap or whether they represent distinct groups; transcript language was ambiguous on the relationship between the two counts.
Dr. Hayek also summarized grant activity: staff manage roughly 55 active grants across competitive and formula streams. She said the district has awarded grants and pending applications and highlighted competitive federal opportunities the district is pursuing, including a state-administered CLSD program (federal money distributed by the state) and COPS grant applications. The district is also applying for distance-learning and telemedicine grants and continuing Perkins, CTE and other formula grants.
Board members asked whether the EL student count was rising; Dr. Franz (staff member) responded that the number of newcomers this year had not continued the climb seen in prior years. Dr. Hayek said the district will bring ACT and NSCAS results when they become available.
