Criminal justice update: youth vaping survey results and MOU renewal with LCO pending

At the CJCC update the presenter said a survey at Hayward, Winter and LCO schools found 47 percent of respondents first try vaping between ages 11 and 13; the presenter said a smaller number of responses indicated initiation as young as ages 5–7. The biggest reason cited in the survey was peer pressure (about 30 percent). The presenter described a program being introduced to serve at‑risk youth; the presenter said the program originates from the Twin Cities area and is intended for youth that are already involved in trouble.
The presenter also reported the county’s memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LCO is up for renewal and was sent to tribal and state counsel for review; the MOU was one of the last items handled by a departing staff member and was on the LCO agenda for the upcoming Monday, the presenter said.
