Bennington Public Schools on May 12 approved bid awards for early site work at the district's second high school.
The board accepted a low bid of $1,387,358 for rough and site grading and awarded site survey work to Alpha Land Surveying for $10,100. The two packages were the first of several bid packages planned for the project; district staff said other trade packages will follow as design milestones are met.
District construction staff and the architects reviewed contractor experience, timeline and availability when recommending awards. The board's finance and building committee had earlier vetted the bids and recommended the awards to the full board.
A district representative said, subject to contract completion, grading is expected to start the week of May 23. The board was told the rough grading bid is within the district's site-grading budget and that later packages (precast, finishes, trades) will be bid in subsequent months.
Board members approved the motions by roll call.
