The Grimes County Commissioners Court on Tuesday authorized the county attorney to continue negotiations with the Town of Anderson over the county clerk’s former building at 101 South Main Street in Anderson and approved related surveys of county-owned buildings in Anderson and Navasota.
The action concerned multiple county properties described on the agenda as 7.582 acres on Veterans Memorial Drive in Navasota; the county clerk’s former building at 101 South Main Street in Anderson; 225 Vanthorp Street in Anderson; and other county-owned properties in the town of Anderson. The court had met in executive session under Texas Government Code §551.072 for deliberations regarding real property before returning to open session at 12:04 p.m.
Commissioner David Tellis moved to “authorize the county attorney to continue negotiations with the Town of Anderson on the old county clerk’s building,” and Commissioner Philip Cox seconded the motion. The court amended the motion to explicitly allow the county judge to sign any earnest-money contracts that may arise from the negotiations. The court recorded the motion as approved on a 4-0 vote, with Commissioner Mallett excused.
The court also voted to authorize surveys of the former district attorney’s office (now occupied by Road & Bridge), and the old Road & Bridge building (now occupied by 9-1-1 / Emergency Services). County Judge Joe Fouth moved to authorize the surveys, seconded by Commissioner Michael Rasca; the court said funds are available in the budget line for professional services. That measure passed on a 4-0 vote with Commissioner Mallett excused.
Court minutes show the commissioners left for executive session at 11:45 a.m., adjourned the executive session at 11:59 a.m., and returned to open session at 12:04 p.m. After completing agenda item 22, the court moved on to other business and later adjourned following a unanimous procedural vote.
No sale contracts were signed on the record at this meeting; the court’s actions were limited to authorizing negotiations, permitting the county judge to sign earnest-money contracts if presented, and approving surveys funded from existing budgeted professional-services monies. The court cited Texas Government Code §551.072 when convening the executive session to discuss real property.
