Davie County Schools recognize hundreds of student achievers in band, CTE, SkillsUSA and HOSA
Summary
The board paused its agenda to honor student achievements across music and career-technical education. The Davie Community Foundation reported nearly $350,000 in scholarships and multiple students earned district and all-state band placements, SkillsUSA state placements and HOSA awards.
Davie County Schools on May 20, 2025 held an extended recognition segment honoring student achievements in band and career-technical programs. School and program leaders presented band and vocational awards from middle schools and Davie County High School, and district leaders highlighted community scholarships and student success at state and national competitions.
Interim Superintendent Ms. Haynes and the board recognized several band accomplishments across the county. Middle-school directors reported multiple superior ratings at Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) and student placements into the Northwest District All-District bands; organizers noted some district events were canceled by weather but placements still stand. Davie County High School reported numerous All-District selections and two students who gained spots in the 2025 North Carolina All-State bands.

On the career and technical education side, SkillsUSA advisors and student teams from North Davie Middle School, William Ellis Middle School and Davie County High School reported state- and regional-level placements across event categories including automotive tool identification, promotional bulletin board, engineering challenges, additive manufacturing and robotics. Several high-school teams qualified to go to national competitions later in the school year.
Davie County High School—s HOSA (Future Health Professionals) advisor reported growth in participation (28 students attended state this year versus eight the prior year) and noted two students who placed at the North Carolina state conference and will travel to the International Leadership Conference in Nashville in June.
In other superintendent remarks, Ms. Haynes announced teacher appreciation payments ("low-wealth supplement") scheduled for the end of the month in tiered amounts: approximately $2,780 for Tier 1; $3,092 for Tier 2; and $3,342 for Tier 3. She also told the audience the district has implemented open-gate weapons-detection at all campuses and will use a clear-bag policy and weapons-detection at graduations and other large events.
The recognitions were ceremonial; no board action was required. Board members and community members attending the meeting applauded the students and program staff.
