The School District 5 board voted unanimously to approve a subscription agreement with ZeroEyes Incorporated for an AI weapons-detection system that integrates with the district's CrisisGo emergency alert platform.
At the May 5 meeting, Dr. Harris, chief of student services and planning, introduced the security update and invited Director Jenny Garris and Lead Safety Officer Wise to describe the system. Garris said ZeroEyes "is a learning software" that analyzes camera feeds for possible weapons and routes still images to ZeroEyes' human verifiers before alerts are issued.
Nut graf: District officials said the system is designed to buy time in an active-incident response by narrowing a possible weapon sighting and automatically notifying law enforcement and campus safety teams; staff emphasized that the product does not perform facial recognition and that ZeroEyes does not collect or distribute personally identifiable information.
Director Garris told trustees that the system timestamps detections, produces an image for human review and then can trigger CrisisGo alerts to staff and law enforcement. "The whole goal of this software system is to be proactive in the sense that it gives us more time in an advanced situation," she said, noting human verification operates 24/7 and that the vendor is compliant with federal data-protection standards.
Board discussion touched on privacy and system capabilities; staff said some implementation details remain confidential for security reasons and that certain technical specifics were discussed in executive session. The board then moved to the action agenda; the motion to approve the ZeroEyes subscription agreement (Exhibit D) carried 6-0.
