Lincoln Public Schools board recognizes two teachers for national awards

The Lincoln Board of Education recognized two Lincoln Public Schools teachers Tuesday for national awards.
Karen Coble, a science teacher at North Star High School, received the Robert E. Yeager Exemplary Teaching Award from the National Science Teaching Association. A board resolution praised Coble for helping students “see how science connects to their daily lives” and for sharing her expertise nationwide. Coble thanked colleagues, mentors and family members and highlighted North Star’s science teachers and district support.
The board also honored RJ Mateer, a music instructor at Lincoln Southeast High School, who received the 2025 Donald Lenz Outstanding Bandmaster Award from the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association. In remarks, Mateer described the honor as a career award and emphasized the collaborative work of colleagues, band boosters and students. He thanked family, mentors and students who have supported his program.
Both recognitions were approved by motion and roll call; board members applauded and several guests stood to be recognized.
