Wenatchee Science Resource Center outlines kits, field experiences supported by levy funding

Andrea Kuntz, elementary science coordinator for the Wenatchee School District Science Resource Center, told the board on May 13 that the small SRC team supports science instruction across the district with classroom kits, community partnerships and field experiences.
“We pack over 650 classroom kits, saving teachers hundreds of prep hours to ensure that every student has equitable access to quality instruction that is hands on and engaging,” Kuntz said. The SRC staff described sending kits three times per year, coordinating partners such as Cascade Fisheries and the local PUD, and running eight K–6 field experiences annually.
Makaiya Sutton, field experience coordinator, said levy funding has been central to sustaining the field experience program for more than 20 years and enables partnerships with landowners, agencies and nonprofits that host outdoor lessons. The presenters said the SRC packages more than 650 kits, serves over 4,000 students, covers 27 different study courses and aligns to Next Generation Science Standards.
SRC staff reviewed a proposed field-experience schedule for the coming school year and invited board members to attend field visits. Board members thanked the presenters and praised the hands-on opportunities for students who otherwise might not get outdoor or laboratory experiences.
No board action was taken at the conclusion of the SRC presentation.
