School Liaison Committee expands resource listings, outreach to PTAs and special-needs guidance

Mindy Bumgarner, chair of the Flower Mound School Liaison Committee, told council the committee is updating the town’s school resource listings and is adding searchable indicators for services such as ABA and special-needs therapies.
Bumgarner said the committee maintains a FlyAround website list of full scholarships and volunteer opportunities and is cleaning up school listings to remove closed campuses. Committee members are contacting school counselors and PTA leaders directly to verify which campuses offer special-needs services and to create an icon on the town listing indicating available therapies. The committee also plans to add a resource list for test-prep options and is considering a small water-bill blurb to remind parents of upcoming school deadlines.
The committee reported outreach to all PTAs in town to take a needs census and said it has coordinated with LISD staff contacts (Allison Lasan and Buddy Connor) and local AISD and charter schools. Bumgarner said the committee has reached out to homeschooling groups and private-school contacts and will consider applicants to fill a currently vacant committee seat if needed.
Council members asked the committee to return after the legislative session with an update on how any state funding changes would affect local schools; Bumgarner agreed to provide a primer once the session concludes and funding outcomes are clearer.
