Cultural Arts Commission reports growth in art programming and public displays

A vice-chair representing the Flower Mound Cultural Arts Commission reported to council that the commission supports library art programs, public-art displays and the town’s arts festival and is preparing to assist staff with a permanent public-art program.
The vice-chair (Elizabeth Frannen, noted as unable to attend) thanked staff liaisons and described the commission’s advisory role on cultural arts programs, art-in-public-places, library programming and the annual arts festival. The commission coordinates rotating art-wall displays (three times a year), selects artists for traffic-signal box art, and supports outreach events such as the arts festival at Heritage Park and the library’s Art Party.
Members said public interest in artist meet-and-greets and the art-wall program has grown; one council member estimated 50-to-100 attendees at artist receptions. The commission noted a need for staff direction on the permanent public-art program funded by hotel tax; staff and commissioners are awaiting a formal call for assistance and plan to participate when the program launches.
On a related topic, commissioners noted the Cultural Arts Center remains in early planning and that staff expects progress during the current council term. No formal requests for funding or council action were made at the update; commissioners said they will continue volunteer assistance and public outreach.
