The Grand Prairie City Council voted May 6 to approve a specific-use permit authorizing classroom and administrative operations for Truck Smart CDL Academy at 2080 North Highway 360, with conditions that prohibit on-site driving practice, vehicle maneuvering, or the parking/storage of oversized commercial vehicles.
Planning staff described the request as classroom-only operations for CDL instruction: enrollment, orientation, scheduling and administrative tasks. The planning and zoning commission recommended approval 9–0 with conditions specifying that on-site operations be limited to classroom and administrative functions and that no commercial vehicles or semi-trailer storage be allowed at the site. The applicant and staff confirmed that building and fire inspections and required restroom and occupancy certifications must be completed before a certificate of occupancy would be issued.
During council discussion the business owner affirmed the operation is strictly classroom-based at this location; the owner said off-site truck storage and driving practice would occur at leased locations elsewhere. Police and staff noted strict enforcement would apply if trucks or training activity occurred at the 2080 site. Council approved the permit by voice vote.
