Lincoln Board appoints Mara Krivilovic to District 5 seat after death of Lanny Boswell

The Lincoln Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously April 22 to temporarily appoint Mara Krivilovic to the District 5 seat left vacant by the April 9 death of longtime member Lanny Boswell.

Board leadership proposed the appointment to provide continuity through the end of the current term and to reflect that Krivilovic was the only named candidate for District 5 in the city primary held April 8. The motion, made under Policy 83-14 and temporarily suspending Policy 82-10, directs that the appointment commence immediately upon administration of the oath and continue through the term scheduled to end May 19, 2025.

Why it matters: The board said the move is intended to maintain continuity in governance during a short remaining portion of the term and to align the temporary appointment with upcoming election and swearing-in dates.

The board completed a roll-call vote after the motion. The vote was recorded as unanimous in favor; the motion carried and Krivilovic then came forward to take the oath of office and sign the formal oath before being seated.
