Student affairs outlines dining expansion, Little Gov's classroom openings and summer enrollment under 'Engage' plan

During the student affairs committee meeting, Dr. Leonard Clemons, vice president for student affairs, provided updates on implementing the committee’s student affairs strategic plan, known as Engage. The presentation was informational and required no committee action.

Clemons said the university will expand its campus food court and add a full-service Chick-fil-A where the old café was located. He described the Chick-fil-A location as intended to be “full service” and said it will be large relative to similar campus locations in the area; the committee was given an expected opening timeframe of fall 2025. Clemons also said the expansion will include Subway and an additional student engagement/lounge space; the transcript records the phrase “adding K Way” as part of that list. Clemons thanked campus partners including Joe Mills, John Carter and Lizzie Gilmore and staff in fiscal services and capital planning for their work on the project.

Clemons reported that Little Gov’s Learning Center has opened two new classrooms and will offer summer enrollment for the first time, expanding capacity to serve “over 40 families” seeking early childhood care. He said the student affairs division will provide an end-of-year impact report documenting the division’s work and its effects on student experience at the next board meeting.

Committee members asked a scheduling question about the Chick-fil-A opening; Clemons responded that it will be open by homecoming. The committee recorded the update as information only and took no action.
