Local retailer says Grantsville lacks industrial sites, asks council about Burmester water-line timing

At the start of the April 23 meeting, Grantsville resident and local business owner Scott Staple told the council he wants to expand his store but cannot find available industrial or commercial sites in the city. He said he has "viable funding" to build or buy a site but needs utilities — particularly a water line and fire-suppression capacity — to be in place.
Staple asked specifically about the status of the water line along Burmester and whether the city expects the line to be installed within the next six months. A staff member replied that the city had a grant to install that water line in the past but moved those funds to a sewer project after the sewer project's cost doubled; staff said the city will continue to pursue grants to complete the water work and that donated materials and volunteer hauling had been discussed previously.
Staple said he preferred to stay in Grantsville and not relocate to Tooele or elsewhere. The council and staff encouraged Staple to meet with staff and local property owners to explore immediate options while the city pursues grant funding.
