Grantsville council approves bereavement leave changes, swap-meet vendor fee and dispatch MOU

At its April 23 meeting the Grantsville City Council approved several routine ordinances and a memorandum of understanding: changes to bereavement leave, a business license fee for swap-meet vendors, and the annual dispatch service agreement with the county.

Ordinance 2025-20: Bereavement and funeral leave. City staff proposed converting fixed-day bereavement allowances to hour-based amounts to account for different shift lengths. Under the adopted language employees will receive up to 24 hours for immediate-family bereavement and up to 16 hours for extended family; the ordinance also clarifies that vacation and sick leave may be used to extend bereavement time. A councilmember motioned to approve the ordinance with the additions discussed during the meeting; the motion carried on a voice vote.

Ordinance 2025-22: Swap-meet vendor license fee. Council added a $5 per-month vendor license for daily swap-meet vendors to the city's business license fee schedule to match existing code language and to support administration of vendor applications; the change passed on a council voice vote.

Resolution 2025-29: Dispatch services. Staff presented the annual review of the county dispatch agreement; the contract amount decreased this year and the council approved the memorandum of understanding renewing dispatch services.

Each item was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; councilmembers recorded "Aye" and the mayor declared the motions carried. The ordinances will be posted following the city's normal ordinance-adoption procedures.
