Finance committee approves transfer of two Sixth Avenue properties to Habitat for Humanity

The Kenosha Finance Committee voted unanimously May 5 to recommend transfer of two city-owned properties on Sixth Avenue to Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha.
City staff said the properties were transferred by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Kenosha after a public hearing and that Habitat for Humanity is the recommended recipient. Tim Casey, identified in the meeting as City of Development staff, told the committee the redevelopment authority held a public hearing March 21 and recommended the transfer at its April 22 meeting.
Casey said the organization has a prospective homeowner in process; staff will review plans, budgets and the prospective homeowner’s readiness before a final transfer occurs. At the committee meeting Casey said he had met one individual believed to be a prospective homeowner but did not confirm whether that individual is associated with one or both properties.
The properties were listed in the agenda as 460930 Sixth Avenue and 461530 Sixth Avenue. The committee voted 5 to 0 to approve recommending the transfer to the full council: Alderperson DeBaer — aye; Alderperson Harper — aye; Alderperson Dyson — aye; Vice Chairperson Rosenberg — aye; Chairperson Wilson — aye.
City staff said further administrative review and the prospective homeowner certification are required before the deeds are transferred. No public objections were recorded at the finance committee hearing.
