Kenosha committee membership changed to add two citizen seats on CDBG panel

The Kenosha Finance Committee on May 5 approved an ordinance amending the composition of the Community Development Block Grant committee to create two general citizen member seats.
The ordinance, advanced by the mayor and described at the meeting as an attempt to broaden citizen involvement, was approved after a public hearing and a unanimous 5-0 vote by the finance committee.
Under the existing language noted in the packet, the CDBG committee included three finance members, three city plan members and one citizen. The amendment replaces or supplements those appointments so that two members will be general citizens “not tied to any other committees,” according to public remarks recorded at the hearing. The mayor’s office said the change is intended to increase direct citizen participation on the CDBG panel.
No public speakers objected during the hearing. Committee members cast their votes when roll call was taken: Alderperson DeBaer — aye; Alderperson Harper — aye; Alderperson Dyson — aye; Vice Chairperson Rosenberg — aye; Chairperson Wilson — aye. The motion carried 5 to 0.
The ordinance will move forward from the finance committee to the full common council for final action, as is standard for municipal ordinance amendments.
