Audi, the district preschool principal, described the inclusive preschool's upcoming early learning assessment window (Early Learning Assessment) running Feb. 15 through May 14. The tool covers social foundations, math, science, language and literacy, physical well-being and motor development and fine arts; teachers administer the assessment individually to each preschool student. Audi also noted an on-site natural history museum program and that parents' quarterly survey returned a strong positive response to the preschool's environment.
The Moreland principal reported winter MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing is scheduled Jan. 16–26 and will be followed by PLC (professional learning community) data review for instructional planning. The OELPA (Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment) window runs January through March. Kindergarten information sessions and registration are set for Feb. 8–9 at the PPLC; schools have been receiving inquiries and expect about 100 families at information events. The principal said current kindergarten enrollment stands at about 44 students across eight classrooms with registration expected to remain similar or rise.
Brady's principal praised the high school music department for a winter assembly and noted student-council activities (door-decorating contest) and a coming spelling bee. Eighth graders will visit the high school for orientation and scheduling activities, and Brady students will attend an honors choir event in Solon.
The high-school principal outlined a revised exam schedule used before winter break (two exam periods per day in the final week) and said second-quarter grades are being entered; he noted 38 school days remain until the SAT administration scheduled for March 6. Counselors will help students link PSAT results to Khan Academy for targeted SAT preparation. College Credit Plus informational night is scheduled Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.; the robotics, mock trial and academic challenge teams have upcoming competitions and the academic challenge will appear on a regional news broadcast in February.
Principals recognized a number of student achievements, including national recognition in a young writers' competition for district gifted students and student performances at the Cleveland Play House.
