Summary
Commission staff reported completion of the first eight renovated courts and outlined a resurfacing schedule for all 16 outdoor courts starting May 1, with one-week phases and temporary access and parking changes during work.
Staff told the Tennis and Pickleball Commission that the renovation of the first eight courts is complete: windscreens are installed, bleachers remain in place and staff identified minor follow-up work on pickleball net posts and backside drainage.
Staff said the same contractor working on an adjacent ball field will return with equipment to complete the drainage corrections once that project is underway. The commission was told that full resurfacing of the outdoor courts is scheduled to begin May 1: courts 1–8 will be resurfaced first (anticipated one-week work window) followed by courts 9–16, with the contractor expecting to complete the outdoor resurfacing within the spring season.
Commissioners and staff discussed spectator visibility and windscreen design. The installed windscreens are attached to frames without cut slits; staff said the chosen design reduces flapping and has performed well at other facilities, citing an example in Florida. Staff also noted ongoing work to add trash receptacles and to address complaints about court furniture and net strap attachments.
Staff warned that later construction phases will be more disruptive: at a later point the project will require taking a full parking lot out of service, and staff are coordinating alternate parking, gate control and permit passes for frequent users. Staff said they will communicate closures and access changes to members and the public through email and marketing outreach and coordinate with high schools and tournament schedules to reduce conflicts.
No formal vote was required for the update; commissioners asked staff to continue outreach and to return with timing details as work proceeds.
