Gatesville ISD readies Purple Star application, deepens Fort Cavazos partnerships

A district presenter described the military youth sponsorship program (an installation-level integration program used when military families relocate) and said Gatesville ISD is building a stronger partnership with Fort Cavazos. The district reported it has designated military liaisons on each campus (often campus counselors), created a military-families page on the district website and plans staff professional development on May 5 to support transition practices and document evidence for the Purple Star application, which is due in mid-June.
Staff introduced two guests from Fort Cavazos: Colonel Stokes, the garrison commander, and Leticia ("Letty") Sanchez, the Fort Cavazos school liaison officer. In brief remarks, Colonel Stokes described his installation responsibilities and thanked the district for its support of military-connected students. District staff said Leticia Sanchez joined within the last month and will help the partnership.
Staff said the district previously adopted a resolution supporting military families and participated in military appreciation activities; trustees received the Purple Star update as an information item and were told staff will submit the application once the evidence package is complete.
