Clemmons recognizes student shirt design winner and previews busy spring events calendar

Council members recognized Kelsey Jackson, a fifth-grade student at Southwest Elementary School, as the winner of the Village of Clemmons'025 Community Spring Cleanup T-shirt design contest. Events Coordinator Lynette Fox announced the village—ommunity-wide spring cleanup will be held Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Public Works facility; shirts featuring Jackson s the winner will be distributed to volunteers while supplies last.
Fox also reported on recent and upcoming events. She said the village hosted a transportation summit on April 24 with eight participating organizations and about 50 attendees. The village ran an electronics recycling event (eRecycle) with approximately 202 participants. The Clemons Community Day and Farmers Market event produced a large, transient crowd that staff estimated at about 8,000 people, the largest attendance reported for that event. Fox said the farmers market will officially open for the season on May 10 with more than 50 vendors expected; she cautioned that concurrent sporting events may create parking challenges.
Upcoming community events listed by staff include the spring cleanup (May 3), Pizza with the Police (a noon event May 6 at a local Mediterranean restaurant), and a movie night showing Napoleon Dynamite on May 16 at the YMCA. Fox also noted that the village is recruiting members for the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment, and provided links on clemmons.org for interested residents.
