Placerville Fire Safe Council outlines plans for fourth annual Wildfire Safety Day at Midtown Mall

Mark Acuna of the Placerville Fire Safe Council briefed the Placerville City Council on the fourth annual Wildfire Safety Day and asked the council to help spread the word.
Acuna said the event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 681 Main Street and that last year’s event drew “a few little over 400 folks.” He thanked volunteers and local sponsors who were supporting the event, including Placerville Rotary (providing food), Placerville Hardware, Midtown Mall property manager Nancy Boyette (providing indoor space if it rains), Doug Vierkamp Engineering (signage), Dave Warren (printing), Dennis Nishihara (equipment/cleanup assistance) and Nick Stone (traffic safety and street closure support).
Acuna said the event is dedicated in memory of Lucas Shepherd and noted that the fire department and other officials will speak at opening. He told council the organizers had contingency plans in case of rain and that some displays would be inside Midtown Mall suites provided by the property manager.
Resident Sue Rodman praised the event during public comment, saying it helps residents learn how to create defensible space and prepare for evacuations and animal rescue during an emergency.
The council thanked Acuna and encouraged public attendance. Acuna requested permission to return after the event with a wrap-up and participant acknowledgment; the mayor agreed that staff would welcome a post-event report.
