CRA reports Meisner Park repairs, fountain work and downtown maintenance upgrades

Ruby Riley, downtown manager for the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency, told commissioners at the April 21 meeting that the agency is continuing a series of downtown appearance and infrastructure updates focused on Meisner Park and adjacent areas.
"Starting with Meisner Park, we had some paver pads installed around the cafe tables and chairs and umbrellas so that we were in compliance with ADA for a clear path around the area," Riley said. She said fountain restoration work has begun on the north fountains and that crews will later work on the south fountains and, after a centennial break, the main center fountain.
Riley said the CRA has installed a water meter to connect drinking fountains in the center of the park and is awaiting a second meter at the south end so crews can install water drinking fountains with dog bowls. She also reported that recycling bins have been placed, benches and trash receptacles have been repainted black, and resodding is underway with the south end already completed.
Riley added that electrical conduit has been installed under lifted pavers to support future security camera installations and other utilities. "We're getting ready for all that work that that will take place," she said. She also noted the downtownBoca.org site was refreshed and an interactive map remains in development.
Commissioners asked operational questions during the presentation. Vice Chair Thompson offered an observation about trash-can placement and pedestrian behavior, citing a Walt Disney World example; Thompson did not request an action but suggested the anecdote could inform future counts and placement. A commissioner asked whether recycling bins were being used correctly; Riley said Brookfield has been coordinating regular clean-outs and, "it seems to be working as far as I know." Another commissioner confirmed dog-waste stations are present in Meisner Park.
The presentation closed with staff and board comments that downtown infrastructure projects range from short-term appearance work to longer-term utilities and planning tied to a future downtown government campus.
Work items Riley identified as in progress or planned include paver pads for ADA access, phased fountain restoration (north, south, then main fountain), installation of drinking fountains with dog bowls pending an additional meter, recycling and trash bin placement and monitoring, bench and trash-bin repainting, resodding, conduit for security cameras, and an upgraded downtown website and interactive map. The board did not take formal action on these items at the meeting; they were presented as staff updates.
