Wausau committee approves multiple liquor‑license actions, grants 90‑day extension for Golden Domes

The Wausau Public Health & Safety Committee on April 21 approved a slate of licensing recommendations and granted a 90‑day extension to a restaurant undergoing repairs.

The committee voted to accept staff recommendations on a batch of licenses that included a Class C wine recommendation for Taste of Jamaica and a pending dance‑hall and sidewalk café license for West Sider Diner & Lounge at its adjacent space. Owner Tyler Goldge told the committee the additional space shares the same foundation, mechanical and electrical systems as the existing restaurant and will be used intermittently for rented events and seasonal sidewalk seating.

Clerk staff notified the committee that Jalapeños at 300 North Third Street, Lower Lehi, Suite 1, had conditionally surrendered its Class B liquor license so a prospective tenant, Los Compadres Mexican Restaurant, can take over the premises. Staff said documentation is in progress and the new operator is aiming to open in June; because of the conditional surrender, the committee did not pursue abandonment action.

The committee also approved a 90‑day extension for Golden Domes, 1715 Stuart Avenue, following a fire and ongoing restoration work. The extension was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote with no opposition, allowing the owner time to complete repairs before reopening.

The committee approved the minutes from earlier meetings and voted to accept or deny the other license applications as recommended by staff.

Members placed the licensing items on record for forwarding to the full council as required by ordinance.
