Committee previews Portraits of History samples, gallery schedule and curation policy work

Design samples and preservation notes Designers presented finish and material samples that will be used in the portraits exhibit and the east garden vault, including an example foam ‘‘gold bar’’ prop intended for display. Construction and preservation staff said all fixtures in the garden-level vault will be rigged reversibly and made to meet historic-preservation standards.
Gallery scheduling and exhibits The Capitol curator outlined a tentative exhibit schedule through 2028. The curator said the Gallery will remain flexible while several building projects are planned. The curator is exploring traveling exhibits from accredited museums (for example, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and the American Heritage Center), and said temporary displays will be planned to avoid conflict with major events such as Frontier Days and statehood celebrations.
Curation policies and next steps The curator said staff are finalizing a facilities report aligned with American Alliance of Museums standards that prospective lenders use to assess whether loaned objects can be housed here. The draft of the curation policy is under internal review; the curator said the plan is for subcommittee review and then consideration by State Building Commission and other leadership as appropriate.
