Fire department gas detectors: The board approved a request to withdraw $28,450 from the fire department equipment capital reserve fund to replace approximately eight gas-detection units and to purchase calibration equipment. The board was told the existing detectors are about 15 years old, have failing sensors, and appear past their useful life; the replacement plan would put a detector (and calibration capability) in each vehicle listed. The motion carried.
Police vehicle auction: The board voted to send one 2013 Ford Taurus (noted as a former frontline vehicle converted for detective use) to the state auction. The selectmen said the vehicle is about 13 years old and has an unresolved electrical battery-draw issue. Proceeds from the auction will be deposited to the town’s general fund.
Consent agenda and nonpublic minutes: The board approved the consent agenda (accounts payable manifest; draft minutes; a raffle permit; a deed; veterans tax credit applications; an abatement request; consideration of two library trustee alternates; and an elderly tax exemption application). Separately, the board approved and ordered sealed certain nonpublic minutes from April 7, 2025.
