The Littleton Transportation and Mobility Board identified five priority themes for the upcoming Transportation Master Plan (TMP) update and assigned board subcommittees to develop vision statements and details for each theme.
During a wide-ranging discussion, members agreed on five near-term themes for the TMP update: street types and roadway classifications; communications and public engagement; funding; culture shift (community behavior and safety culture); and connectivity (multimodal links between schools, libraries, commercial centers and neighborhoods). Staff said the city is shooting for a Jan. 1 start for the TMP update and asked the board to provide a statement of work to support a consultant selection and an Aug. 1 submission of board inputs. Shane (staff liaison) said that target is "predicated on having a January 1 start date for TMP update. There's a little bit of wiggle room in that, but that's kind of what we set the schedule up on."
The board agreed to use its remaining three meetings before the stated internal deadline to prepare materials and to hold study sessions as needed. The body assigned two board members to each theme to form subcommittees; subcommittees are expected to meet before the next regular board meeting and return draft vision statements for discussion. Staff also recommended continuing the survey used earlier (53 responses reported) and expanding outreach through summer events, including the farmer's market and the city's meet-and-greet events.
Members emphasized practical guidance: translate high-level TMP goals into actionable street types and design triggers (for example, when reconstruction should add multimodal features) and include fiscally constrained milestones and pilot-project pathways so short-term steps lead toward long-term goals.
