The adopted augmentation brings forward committed purchase orders and funds for projects already under contract, plus several one‑time allocations.
Key items discussed included: $1,000,000 transferred to the County Construction Fund to support the Justice Center/JLAC remodel and associated bond reserve; $184,000 for an upgrade to the Clerk/Treasurer Dominion election hardware; a $100,000 increase to contingency; $100,000 tied to preliminary engineering for the Denmar property (bed tax/room tax fund to cover purchase costs); and funds to address a shortfall in an existing budget line. Lewis emphasized that many items in the augmentation represent carry‑forwards of previously authorized purchase orders and that the December augmentation presented on consent primarily consolidated already‑committed funds.
Commissioners asked for assurance that large projects would be carefully bid and that one‑time augmentations would be spent only as needed. Several commissioners noted competing priorities such as road maintenance and expressed a desire to hold some funds in reserve. The board discussed options for allocating roughly $97,000 of the augmentation that had not yet been specifically earmarked and suggested possible uses including housing studies or road work.
Motion and vote: Commissioner Gardner moved to adopt Resolution 2025‑R‑36 to augment budgets by $5,583,316; Commissioner Tarkanian seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
