El Paso County proclaims May 4–10 as Small Business Week; local entrepreneurs and trade educators speak

The El Paso County Board of Commissioners voted 4-0 to proclaim May 4–10, 2025, as Small Business Week for the Pikes Peak region.
Commissioner Bill Wysong read the proclamation, which highlights the economic and community contributions of small businesses and lists local chambers and support organizations. The text recognizes small businesses as a large share of regional employers and encourages residents to shop locally during the week of observance.
Brandon Eldridge, executive director of the Pikes Peak Small Business Development Center, described an entrepreneur’s path from a food truck to a storefront and noted the center’s role in supporting business growth. "Stories like this remind us that behind every thriving small business is someone who took a risk, put in the work, and made our community stronger because of it," Eldridge said.
Amaron Hartman of Kilroy's Workshop described workforce and community programs his organizations run, including trade education for students and production work such as manufacturing sabers for the U.S. Air Force Academy. He said the workshop trains roughly 4,000 students each year and partners with local nonprofits to provide training and community services.
Rhonda McCrory of Monumental Med Spa described plans to use a portion of profits from a related electronic medical records business to fund a nonprofit wellness retreat supporting women recovering from abuse.
Commissioners praised the role of small businesses across municipalities and in unincorporated El Paso County and noted upcoming Small Business Week events, including awards presented on May 5 by the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado, the Colorado Springs Chamber and EDC, and US Bank. The board’s roll call recorded: Commissioner Bremer — aye; Commissioner Weissong — aye; Commissioner Applegate — aye; the chair — aye. The motion passed 4-0.
The proclamation cites local business examples and lists participating chambers and support organizations; no appropriation or regulatory action was recorded as a result of the proclamation.
