Melanie Akenbach of Eaton County Community Corrections explained the vacancy stems from Judge Van Lingueveld's appointment to the Michigan Office of Community Corrections board. Akenbach asked the committee to "recommend to the board of commissioners the appointment of Judge Falsing to serve" on the county's CCAB.
Committee members moved to add the appointment under miscellaneous, the motion was seconded and carried with voice votes of "aye." A subsequent motion to accept Akenbach's recommendation also carried on a voice vote of "aye." The transcript records the votes as "Aye" without individual roll-call names.
Why it matters: Public Act 511 (Community Corrections Act), which Akenbach cited, requires counties to seat various stakeholders on a CCAB. The committee's recommendation will go to the full board of commissioners for final appointment.
