Sherry Bailey, the commission’s executive assistant, reported progress on events and marketing. Bailey said Mother's Day tickets are nearly sold out for Saturday, while Sunday's sales lag and staff will push additional marketing. She said she is pursuing local wineries for the Toast of the Canyon trains and is finalizing a Bridal Nevada grant to complete the commission website.
"Tickets are almost sold out for Saturday of Mother's Day. Sunday's a little lagging," Bailey said. She added that she will hand the website work to Leah for review once the grant deliverable is complete.
Candy (staff) provided specific ticket counts and integration plans. "On Mother's Day, the Saturday of Mother's Day, we have sold out all the tables and the private room, but there's still 135 coach tickets left," Candy said. For Sunday she reported about 170 coach tickets remaining and said Fair Harbor has offered an integration team to help add seat assignments for Polar Express when the new website goes live. Candy said Fair Harbor can perform the integration at no charge or work with the website vendor.
Staff also said they had received increased rail-bike inquiries and are coordinating marketing and operational readiness. The commission discussed marketing timing, billboard scheduling and cooperation with Virginia City on promotion.
Bailey and staff noted that some billboards were adjusted last year to avoid outdated Mother's Day messaging and that staff worked out scheduling with the billboard vendor to reduce that risk going forward.
