Vandalia swears in Jacob Walters as full-time firefighter/paramedic

Jacob Walters was sworn in as a full-time firefighter/paramedic at the April 21 Vandalia City Council meeting. City staff said Walters began part-time with the Division of Fire in September 2020, obtained paramedic certification in 2023 and had previously received multiple letters of accommodation and the 2023 EMS Person of the Year award before leaving the department in 2024.
City staff read Walters’s biography and administered the oath of office during the meeting’s introduction and oath-of-office segment. During the oath, Walters and the administering official recited, in part, "I, Jacob Walters, solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution and obey the laws of the United States and of the state of Ohio ... observe the provisions of the charter and ordinances of the City of Vandalia and will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of firefighter, paramedic, inspector within the Division of Fire." Council and staff performed the ceremonial pinning and took photographs following the oath.
City staff said Walters will return to full-time service and will continue to deliver emergency and inspection services for the community. No council vote was required for the oath presentation.
