The Austin Peay State University Board Executive Committee forwarded nominations of Trustee Mike O'Malley for board chair and Trustee Phil Ruppin for vice chair to the full Board of Trustees for consideration, with both nominations set to serve beginning July 1, 2025 if approved by the full board.
Chairman Jenkins nominated the current vice chairman, Mike O'Malley, to be chair starting July 1, 2025 and recommended forwarding the nomination to the board. Jenkins described O'Malley’s prior role on the presidential search committee and noted the facility the committee was meeting in was associated with the O'Malley family. "I cannot think of anybody that would be any more qualified and more eager to serve as chairman of this board," Jenkins said.
The committee voted by voice to forward O'Malley's nomination to the full board: "All those in favor of forwarding trustee O'Malley as the nominee for board chair, please signify by saying aye. Aye. All opposed? The ayes have it," Jenkins said.
For vice chair, Jenkins nominated Phil Ruppin and the committee forwarded that nomination to the full board by voice vote. Jenkins described Ruppin as an Austin Peay graduate with a long career and strong connections in the state legislature. The transcript records the motions and voice approvals but does not include roll-call tallies or recorded dissents.
