County solicitor: 69 tax appeals filed; 27 resolutions on tomorrow's agenda including CDBG projects and contracts

The Beaver County Solicitor told the commissioners at the April 23 work session that 69 tax assessment appeals were filed this year and that the county is "about halfway through" processing appeals, with roughly 80 parcels still in the court process.

The solicitor said 27 resolutions would be on the agenda for the commissioners' meeting the next day. Items described by the solicitor included Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awards focused on human services, an item concerning sidewalks and paving for a location described as Nicollina (item 10), a paving project in Ambridge (item 13), and a multi-year agreement with Bickerstaff Landscaping for weed control at Bridgewater Landing. The solicitor identified HR policy updates (items 18 and 19) covering asset-control and driving county-owned vehicles. Another agenda item described was an agreement for Beaver County YMCA to staff a county facility (listed as item 23), and a lease with Saint Barnabas for county storage for three years at $9,000 per month (item 24). The solicitor also listed the purchase of a new sheriff vehicle (item 25) and asbestos removal at the Darlington Bricks project (item 27).

County staff present noted that the asbestos-removal work is intended to allow a contractor to perform cleanup; staff referenced ongoing work supported by an "ETA grant." Dan, a county department head, confirmed the cleanup has been worked on "for quite a while" and that the asbestos-removal resolution is a step to authorize a contractor to proceed.

The solicitor closed by asking whether there were questions and said the office would move to an executive session later in the meeting to discuss a personnel matter. No formal votes on the listed resolutions occurred during the work session; the solicitor said the resolutions were scheduled to be considered at the upcoming commissioners meeting.
