Middlesex County recognizes First Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge on 350th anniversary

The Board of County Commissioners of Middlesex County adopted a resolution recognizing the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge on its 350th anniversary.

The board’s resolution, read aloud during the meeting, noted the church’s 1675 meeting house construction, its role in community groups and services such as a food pantry and children’s clothing closet, and its listing on the National Register of Historic Places. A county commissioner presented the resolution and asked Reverend Gillette to join commissioners at the front to accept it.

"On behalf of the session and members of First Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge, I would like to thank the commissioners for this act of recognition," Reverend Gillette said, adding that it had been “a delight, a privilege, and an honor in my brief 6 months there to serve.”

The resolution text recited the church’s community uses over the centuries — scouts, Alcoholics Anonymous, community choir, Daughters of the American Revolution and historical society — and described the congregation’s ongoing programs including youth activities, Bible study and mission work that supports local needs.

The board’s presentation included brief remarks by a county commissioner about the church being a longstanding local landmark and invited those present to a group photograph after the presentation.

The recognition was ceremonial; no additional action or funding was announced at the meeting. The resolution will be kept on file in the clerk’s office as part of the board’s records.
