Bossier Parish to pay one-time supplements to full-time school employees

The Bossier Parish Finance Committee approved a one-time supplemental payment for full-time school employees, the committee heard. The committee approved the payment after a motion by Mr. Bullard and a second from Miss Smith; the motion passed unanimously among members present.
Nisha Bamberg, chief financial officer, told the committee the district had identified sufficient excess funds to make a one-time payment to full-time employees. "We are looking at paying the supplement to all full time employees that are employed as of May 1 ... and we would like to ask for this to be paid on May 20 via direct deposit," Bamberg said.
The supplement will be $1,600 for professional staff and $1,000 for support staff. Bamberg said the total cost is "just over $5,000,000 in cost," and that the district had the funds available to cover it.
Mr. Bullard moved approval and praised Bamberg's work finding the funds. "I commend, Miss Bamberg for she's finding a lot of money," he said before making the motion. Miss Smith seconded the motion. Committee chair Ms. Poole called for the vote and reported the motion passed unanimously among members present.
The committee recorded the action as passing out of committee; the transcript does not list a roll-call tally of individual yes votes. The payment eligibility is limited to full-time employees employed as of May 1 and the planned payment method is direct deposit on May 20.
