Board ratifies $16,289 food grant and updates Medicaid match agreement ceiling to $2.7 million for four-year term

The Churchill County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday ratified a $16,289 agreement between Churchill County Social Services and the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Aging and Disability Services Division to purchase domestically produced foods for the William and Pennington Life Center congregate and Meals-on-Wheels programs.
Shannon Ernst of Churchill County Social Services said the allocation is intended to pay for milk, fruit, vegetables and protein to ensure those items are included in congregate meals and home-delivered meals. The board ratified the agreement by voice vote to allow Social Services to expend the funds.
On a related item, Social Services also presented an amended interlocal agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Care Policy and Financing, updating the not-to-exceed estimate for the county’s Medicaid long-term services match program for a four-year term. Ernst said state guidance allowed counties to collect up to 8¢ for the program; Churchill County currently collects 6¢ and staff recommended moving to a four-year agreement that matches other counties. The amendment increases the not-to-exceed amount to $2,700,000 for the four-year period to cover obligations.
The board approved both actions by voice vote.
Ending: Social Services will expend the food funds immediately for the Life Center programs and will proceed under the amended Medicaid-match estimate; staff said they would continue to budget and report per state requirements.
