U‑M Flint highlights rapid enrollment growth, HRSA nursing grant and student success story

Alexander said U‑M Flint experienced a 6.5% enrollment increase last fall—the largest percentage increase among state universities—and that the campus received nearly $4 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration to increase the number of nurses serving rural and underserved counties (Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac and Tuscola). He described an expanded Go Blue Guarantee eligibility and noted that the campus paid $10.7 million in scholarships last year, including $3.3 million from the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.
Alexander introduced Diane Tupper, a senior who described earning an English degree while caring for children, receiving research and practicum opportunities, and being accepted to the master's program in social work. Alexander asked the legislature to consider funding for a consolidated student success hub and ongoing infrastructure support.
When Representative Rogers asked about federal funding freezes, Alexander said the campus had not experienced significant frozen or clawed-back grants to date and agreed to provide details if that changes.
