The Tualatin City Council on April 28 issued several proclamations and heard community presentations.
City staff presented a proclamation designating May 4–10, 2025, as Public Service Recognition Week in Tualatin to honor the city’s roughly 95 employees; staff detailed token recognitions and a staff lunch to be held that week.
The council declared the week of May 2025 as National Police Week, noting Federal recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day; the police chief described the week as a time to remember officers who died in the line of duty and to recognize local department members.
Students from LEAP Youth Alliance (Leadership, Education, Advocacy and Prevention) from Tualatin and Walton high schools presented in support of a proclamation declaring May 2025 as National Prevention Week. LEAP members outlined events planned during Prevention Week, including a mental-health rally outside the high school on May 12, an informational town hall on May 14 with NAMI and Lines for Life, and a fentanyl prevention presentation and lunchtime classroom lessons on May 16. "We prioritize youth voices to emphasize the importance of not only substance use prevention, but also addressing the root cause itself," said Cosima Slider, vice president of LEAP.
Thao Thu, president of the Vietnamese Community of Oregon, accepted a proclamation recognizing April 30, 2025, as Vietnamese American Remembrance Day in Tualatin and recounted the community’s history and the significance of April 30 commemorations.
The council also introduced a Gathering Market schedule at the Winslow Grange (monthly Sunday markets May–October) and welcomed returning Community Development Director Aquila Hertzavage. No formal council votes were required to present the proclamations; each proclamation was introduced and adopted during the meeting.
