County accepts $350,000 North American Development Bank grant to study regional water availability

Hidalgo County Commissioners on April 29 approved an agreement with the North American Development Bank (NADB) to accept and administer a technical assistance grant to study regional water availability.
Isaac Silvana, speaking on behalf of Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez, said the NADB grant will support a comprehensive, regional study of water availability and that the county’s portion of the technical assistance is $350,000. Silvana said neighboring counties will join the regional approach and NADB will administer the funds.
The court approved the agreement on a voice vote without additional conditions recorded in the minutes. The staff presentation described the grant as technical assistance rather than construction funding; the study is intended to inform long‑term water planning and potential capital projects.
Commissioners voiced support and approved the recommendation; staff will return with administrative details and next steps for the study.
