Votes at a glance: Senate adopts memorials, resolutions and adjournment plan on final business day

The Tennessee Senate cleared several largely noncontroversial items and final business on April 22, including memorial resolutions, event congratulatory resolutions, and a House joint resolution setting adjournment and reconvening dates.
Senate Consent Calendar No. 4, described on the floor as a series of memorializing and congratulating resolutions, was spread upon members’ desks and, after a motion to suspend the rules for immediate consideration, was adopted without objection. The clerk reported the consent calendar as passed.
The Senate also adopted specific House joint resolutions on the floor. Among them, the chamber adopted House Joint Resolution 6 85 honoring O. C. Lewis of Memphis; the body stood for a moment of prayer and approved the resolution without objection. The floor also took up HJR 706, a memorial resolution honoring Sheriff Tommy Myers of Warren County; the rules were suspended for immediate consideration and members adopted the resolution.
Leader Johnson moved and the Senate adopted House Joint Resolution 707 calling for adjournment of the first regular session on April 22, 2025, and for the Senate to reconvene the second regular session on Jan. 13, 2026. The motion to suspend the rules for immediate consideration and adoption was made and carried without objection; the Senate then appointed committees to notify the governor and the House that the Senate had completed its business.
After the notification committees reported back, the Senate approved its journal entries for the session days referenced and then, pursuant to the Tennessee Constitution, the presiding officer announced the Senate stands adjourned until Jan. 13, 2026.
Other floor acknowledgments included multiple expressions of thanks to caucus staff, sergeants at arms, and Senate clerks; a short list of distributed session materials ("2025 legislative session at a glance") was given to members, and the chamber recessed briefly while notification committees completed their duties.
