Commission agrees to send letter about frozen NRCS PL-566 funds affecting water projects

Staff reported the affected projects total nearly $40 million in combined cost: roughly $31.7 million in federal funds and about $8.3 million in matching funds identified across multiple PL-566 projects. According to the presentation, some funds were frozen in Washington pending an administrative review of compatibility with the current administration’s priorities. County staff requested the commission sign a letter and transmit it to county congressional contacts, as had been done previously with Senator Lee’s office.
Commissioners expressed support, and staff said the letter would be emailed promptly to the named contact (Alan Freire in the meeting). The commission approved sending the letter by voice vote.
