The West Fargo City Commission authorized staff April 21 to create Improvement District 6062 for 2026 sidewalk improvements and to send a notice of order to construct to property owners lacking sidewalks.
City Engineer Dan Hansen explained the notice of order process and said the sidewalk program is intended to fill gaps in pedestrian routes in newly developed areas and to ensure ADA access at crossings. He said the work is 100% assessed — property owners are responsible for construction costs unless they install the sidewalk themselves during the summer window. The process is typically done every other year; staff said they are getting ahead of the schedule to allow adequate time for plans, bidding and construction in a favorable bidding window.
Hansen said staff will inventory properties over the summer; owners who do not install required sidewalks by the deadline will be included in the 2026 project and assessed for costs. The commission approved the action by voice vote.
