Commission approves purchase of 70-foot forestry bucket truck amid budget amendment

The West Fargo City Commission approved a 2025 budget amendment on April 21 to purchase a new forestry bucket truck to support boulevard-tree work and other elevated tasks. Public Works Director Matt Andrick told commissioners the available, cancelled-order truck fits the city’s specification and is offered at $269,805 (compared with an estimated $400,000–$470,000 for a comparable new unit next year).
Andrick said the existing unit will remain in the city fleet and will continue to be available for electricians and other departments. He told the commission the forestry fund’s 2025 budget was $660,000 and that preliminary 2026 numbers included a roughly $1 million projection that assumed a larger truck purchase; staff said the current fund balance can cover the purchase this year and still leave funds for other anticipated purchases.
Commissioner Jorgensen moved to approve the purchase and the budget amendment; the motion received multiple seconds and passed by voice vote. The administration will proceed with procurement consistent with the amendment presented to the commission.
