Minutes, agenda and consent items Board members approved the March 17 meeting minutes, the meeting agenda as presented and consent items (new hires, retirements and temporary appointments) after motions and seconds. Votes were taken by voice; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the packet for those items.
Policies and administrative placements The board approved policy package 03/4330 for first reading after committee review of finance-related language. The board also approved administrative salary-level placements for the 2025–26 year on a motion and second; a roll-call-style acknowledgment was recorded during the vote.
Remaining 2017 bond projects The board approved using remaining 2017 bond funds for allowable projects on district property. The motion followed prior discussion at the March 17 meeting about available balances and project priorities.
Filter First water‑filler upgrades (grant and contract) The board discussed the Michigan Department of Education Filter First grant and an associated RFP to install or standardize filtered water-bottle refill stations across district buildings. District staff said the Filter First grant requires roughly one water-bottle filler per 100 students and that the district identified 45 stations to meet the requirement across Dexter schools (including Bates, Jenkins and the transportation building). Staff reported the lowest bid came from John & Mechanical (listed as the low bidder in the packet) and proposed to accept a contract not to exceed $190,000 to install compliant water-bottle fillers; a motion to approve a not-to-exceed amount of $190,000 was made and seconded.
Superintendent evaluation The board accepted the superintendent’s annual evaluation summary statement. The evaluation, completed in closed session on Dec. 16, 2024, used the superintendent-evaluation instrument (SEI) referenced in the packet and the board’s overall rating for the evaluation period was recorded as “effective,” described in the materials as the highest rating available under the revised approach.
What changed and next steps Board members directed further committee-level work on a separate transparency discussion (the district’s posting of accounts-payable/check-registry information under state guidance). The transparency item was kept for discussion and staff were asked to bring a recommended approach back to the finance committee for detail work. No changes to the district’s transparency page were approved at the meeting.
The board did not take final action on WISD (regional ISD) trustee selection at this meeting; the board noted it will designate a voting representative and candidate at a later meeting between May 12 and June 2 as required by local ISD procedures.
