Sarpy County Corrections reports rising inmate average, new hires and training; U.S. Marshals holds noted

Corrections Director Joe Martin updated the Board of Corrections on staffing, training and population counts during the April 29 meeting. Martin said the average daily population (ADP) from January through April 2025 was about 237 inmates, up from about 215 for the same period in 2024.
Martin told commissioners the facility was housing 18 U.S. Marshals detainees (all male) at the time of the report. "We do have 18, U.S. Marshals that are currently they're all males in custody," Martin said, noting the facility had not been taking Marshals' detainees last year at this time.
Martin said the average length of stay increased to about 21 days in 2025 compared with 18 days in 2024. He described recent department-wide training and said staff were completing a direct-supervision model training series. The jail ran a large hiring class targeted at female applicants and received more than 90 applicants, hiring four females and two males; new hires are set to begin on May 18.
Martin also said the department updated training content and that the four-week new-hire training curriculum was refreshed to reflect the facility's growth and audit activity.
