Onslow County Public Library plans Comic Fest, author talk and countywide summer-reading kickoff

The Onslow County Public Library announced a slate of spring and early-summer events including a family Comic Fest, an author visit and a countywide summer-reading kickoff.
Jennifer Randall, youth services librarian for the Onslow County Public Library, said Comic Fest will take place May 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Onslow County Main Library on Doris Avenue in Jacksonville and encouraged families to attend in costume. Randall said the event will include comic-book vendors and an author Q&A with Kirk Ristrom.
Randall also said the library will host author Mary Alice Monroe at the Sneads Ferry Library on May 16 at 1 p.m. She asked that attendees pre-register so the library can prepare, but said the event is free and open to the public.
The library's summer-reading program begins with a countywide kickoff on June 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at every branch — Jacksonville (main), Sneads Ferry, Richlands and Swansboro. Randall said this year's theme is "Leveling up at your library," with programming that highlights gaming in broad forms, including non-electronic activities designed for families and children.
Randall said the Comic Fest will feature vendors and children's programming, and she noted that the library's calendar also includes author chats and other summer activities aimed at encouraging family participation.
