Board recognizes state-qualified athletes and academic achievers

At the Nov. 6 meeting the board recognized student achievements across athletics and academics.
Athletics: The board acknowledged tennis doubles team Daniella DeMantisiano (senior) and Lily Geehler (sophomore) for qualifying for the state doubles championship; coaches described a narrow district qualifying win and the players' work with younger students in community tennis programs. Cross-country coach Rachel Fruken recognized Brandon Gent, the first male state qualifier for the district since 2018; he placed 40th in the state meet and earned academic all-Ohio honors.
Academics and activities: High school administrators listed National Merit commendations and semifinalists (named students included Tomas Kekulev, Evelyn Campbell, Heidi Moody and others) and highlighted student research that will be presented at a national medical informatics symposium. The high school also reported recent theater productions and recognition for student achievements in robotics and other clubs.
The board applauded the students and coaches and encouraged the community to attend upcoming events such as the veterans honor wall unveiling.
